Sunset from the Archive

Despite the extreme weather over the last couple of weeks, we’ve somehow managed to maintain our services, though disruption to the postal service has caused a few headaches.

The Archive will close for the start of the Christmas and New Year holiday at 3 p.m. on Friday 24th December. We reopen at 9.30 a.m. on 4th January 2011.

Wishing all our users and readers a very happy Christmas break.

Here’s a photo of the BBC Big Screen in Cardiff. Located next to the St David’s Hall in the centre of the city, you can see a clip of a film from our collection showing the Queen’s visit to the city.

For the first time ever, we’re working with students on a media course at Coleg Ceredigion on a film project.

It all started when Sophie Behraki, film editor and lecturer at Coleg Ceredigion came to the Archive with an idea that her students would create Charlottenew films using the Archive’s amateur film collection. They will also be adding a musical score to the films. Our amateur collection is very large and it’s great to see the students making use of it. Often, showing the footage to the public can be quite boring – hours and hours of silent family events, so this project is a great way to make the collection more attractive!

AndyThe project has also received the Cultural Olympiad’s Inspire Mark ! This is a great honor for us and Coleg Ceredigion. The award is given to exceptional project which have been inspired by the London 2012 Olympic Games.

We’re really looking forward to seeing the finished films. There will be a free public screening of the films at the Drwm on 7 March 2011.
